2 week update

Lots of growth and changes to report this week!
On Tuesday the pups started taking their first steps, a bit wobbly, but still steps. Thursday we began to see their little eyes. We weighed them on their second week birthday Friday, and they've more than tripled their birth weight. They were all within an ounce of 1 pound at birth, and now their average weight is 3.5 pounds.
Here are a few photos from this week:

Happy Birthday!

February 9, 2018
8 little puppies have made their appearance! Lily was a real champ through labor and delivery, giving birth to 6 black and 2 chocolate puppies, 3 girls (the two chocolates and one of the black), and 5 boys.

Lily is already proving herself to be a very attentive mother, and the puppies are falling into a healthy routine of nursing and sleeping!

Enjoy some of the first photos of the little gang:

10 Reasons Why We Love Labs

1. Family friendly. We have small kids (and my husband can act like a small kids around dogs), so it's important to us that our dogs are gentle, patient, and playful. Fun fact: Do you know growing up with a dog in the house decreases a child's likelihood of developing allergies?
2. Guardians. Both our dogs have a very intimidating bark, attentive ears, and are loyal and protective. Mom especially loves that when dad's away!
3. Big enough. We like that they're big enough to be a foreboding guard dog, but not so big that they can't sit at (or on!) our feet. Or if it's Lily with Dad, I should say sitting on his lap!
4. Irresistibly cute. Before my husband got his first lab, he was undecided about what kind of dog to get. But then his heart was stolen by this face :-)
5. Playful. Fetch? Anytime. Tug of war? Even better. Wrestle on the rug? Of course. Hike in the woods? Dog heaven. Camping trip? Everytime. We love that our dogs can be a part of our adventures and fun!
6. Independent. We do love to play with our dogs, but we also love to send them outside without us. They'll chase each other around the yard, or sit on the grass chewing on a bone. And when Dad is outside working for the day and they get to be outside for hours, they never get bored.
7. Trainable. A handful of treats and 15 minutes is plenty to teach them a new trick.
8. People puppies. They aim to please, and are attentive to us. This is in part what makes them so easy to train. And did we say affectionate and excited to see us?
9. Snow dogs. This is just too cute to not share!
10. Cleaning services. It seems the kids are such clean eaters at home... Just can't figure out why we make such a mess at restaurants! ;-)

One Week to Go...

Our little Lily isn't so little anymore!
The puppies are making their presence known and sometimes we can even see or feel their movement inside mama. We are excited to meet these little guys soon, and hoping Lily can stay comfortable these final days of pregnancy.

Stay tuned for the birth announcement!

Entering the final week all together!
